Week of May 11, 2015

With just two weeks to go before senior exams, things are winding down fast! Be sure to take time to enjoy these last few weeks together.

This Week in AP Physics
We will lab, lab, lab. Then we will lab. We will also begin preparations for Physics Day at Cedar Point, which is next Friday, May 22nd.

This Week in Physics
If you have not already done so, by Monday please take notes on Podcast 8 – Electric Power and Podcast 9 – Circuit Safety Features. We’ll discuss these, complete the remaining homework assignment for this unit, and prepare for the unit test, which will be Wednesday or Thursday. We will also begin preparations for Physics Day at Cedar Point, which is next Friday, May 22nd.

This Week in Astronomy
On Monday we will take the test on our universe unit. (There is no homework due with this test. 🙂 ) Then we will examine the solar system in a way you most likely have never experienced before. Yes, we will do a project on the characteristics of the different planets, but we also will figure out how to find the planets in the night sky. Good stuff!

Uncool Science of the Week
A metastudy released in the journal Science on May 1st suggests Earth will see accelerated extinction due to climate change. The conclusion based on analysis of 131 studies is that one in six species will likely disappear if cilmate change is not halted. I find this sobering news! What do you think?
